High Versus Low Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet for Prevention of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT-2) presents with a growing incidence, and its complications contribute mainly to cardiovascular disease overall mortality. DMT-2 prevention early stage management include lifestyle modification by adopting healthy eating patterns increasing physical activity levels. The Mediterranean diet (MD) is associated beneficial effects on human health has been found effective for preventing managing DMT-2. purpose of this meta-analysis investigate whether the level MD adherence plays role in what extent. A systematic literature search PubMed, EMBASE, Web Science Core Collection, Scopus, Google Scholar databases was conducted until November 2022, related observational studies fulfilling eligibility criteria were included. concluded 24 qualitative analysis 23 quantitative analysis. Of those, 18 cohort eligible hazard ratio as effect size five providing odds size. included 248,140 participants mean follow-up 10.8 years (3 22 years).
